Cat Trap Permit The City of Melfort allows for the trapping of cats only as set out in bylaw 91-06, Schedule “A” (1 ) Where Animal Control Services Melfort receives a complaint of a nuisance caused by a cat, Animal Control Services Melfort may: (a) seize and impound any cat found causing a nuisance; (b) issue a trap to the complainant after having the complainant fill in and sign an agreement to maintain the trap as set out in Schedule “A” to this Bylaw. The “Cat Trap Permit” To Place a trap, you must agree to the terms and conditions below, sign this agreement and provide a deposit of $30.00, refundable on return of the trap in working condition. Terms and Conditions 1 . The Cat traps are to be used on your own property in the city limits of Melfort, Saskatchewan as indicated below. 2 . You agree to personally check the trap each hour while it is set. 3 . In the event an animal is trapped, you must immediately contact “Animal Control Services Melfort.” At 306-921-4977. 4 . Until the animal can be retrieved by Animal Control, you are responsible for the animal’s well-being, humane treatment and that no harm come to said animal. Food, water and shelter from the elements must be provided Leave the captured animal in the trap until it can be collected. Place the trap in a warm, dry, secure area such as a garage, basement or shed. Place a blanket over the trap to calm the animal. Animal Control Services will remove the animal from the trap. Do not attempt to remove unknown animals from the trap. If the animal cannot be collected in a timely manner you must free the animal unharmed. 5 . Cat traps are not to be used in extreme temperatures and therefore will not be issued when temperatures are Below – 10 ◦ C or above 30 ◦ C. Animal Control Services Melfort reserves the right to recall traps due to weather conditions. 6 . Animal Control Services may enter the property to ensure the trap is being used within the permit guidelines and instructions. 7. If you, as the signee of the agreement, know the ownership of the captured animal, Animal Control Services must be informed. 8. The loss, damage, or theft of the trap while in possession of the signee is his/ her responsibility for repair or replacement. 9. Do not set traps before 7 am or after 10 pm as animal control is only on call for emergencies between these hours. 10. The trap must be returned to Animal Control Services Melfort within 7 days of being issued to the signee below or the permit must be renewed.
